Joke Debaere

Joke, my life and artistic partner, mostly performs in the HA!Man Show as special guest performer, with spoken word in various forms. Here is her offical introduction:

Joke (pronounced as Yaw-kuh) Debaere, aged 37, was born in Belgium and graduated in 2001 at the Theatre Academy of Maastricht, in the Netherlands. Since then she has been a professional performer and writer. She regularly performed on stages in Belgium, the Netherlands and wrote theatre pieces for her independent theatre company 'Het Zesde Bedrijf'. Her first short story, "A Cathedral of Truth", on the life of the Russian writer Tolstoy, was published in the literary magazine "Deus ex Machina" in 2004. In January 2012, she published her first Dutch poetry album 'verandering'. She also exhibited graphic art in a gallery in Antwerp.

Since April 2012 she has joined Francois le Roux (the HA!Man) as a word artist on stages in Europe, the USA, and South Africa. This is currently her full time occupation. Joke performs in Flemish, English and French. She has self-published three English and fout Dutch poetry books, one Dutch book with travel stories and 5 CDs with her poetry and Francois' music. The English translation of the travel stories is on its way. She is currently working on her first fiction novel.
