A slice of larger-than-life! Hy gee en gee en gee homself. Dat hy gedaan sy buiging vat, is geen wonder nie, want jy's self leeggetap. Dis jubel-en-juig en rillings-teendie-ruggraat-af-goed hierdie. Verstommend. Letterlik: watter woorde doen gestand?
190813	HA!Man performance	Astonished	Today I am a different person. Your words and music have opened a door to a place of silence. A rich and expectant silence. What you show is that music is not a thing, a product, or goal. Music happens while you speak and listen and respond. Music is a process. An unfolding as you put it. Now I need to answer the silence you have made. Heidegger taught that one recognizes true learning by the sense of wonder one feels. He called it astonishment. I was and still am astonished.

Naast de muziekinstrumenten, gebruikt hij vooral zijn stem, mond, tong en lippen om zichzelf te begeleiden. Hij fluit, zingt, klakt, kreunt, smakt, zucht, praat en schreeuwt. Tijdens het dansen met sjaals zet hij elke spier en elk gewricht van zijn lichaam in.

Thank you Engela for your enthusiasm in getting friends together. It was so nice to have my heart touched by your gentleness and opennness and be met by artistic presence which seeks to find and unlock both the frozen and the hidden, to open wider which is willing and to sink into feeling..this way connection is fostered, firstly with self and then in it's nakedness with community. So refreshing and different from the mainstream popular individualism with it's grabby sort of repetitive greed sacrificing the whole for the sake of one, this night it was the one uplifting the whole...the Art of Communion through visible sound. 180208	school performance	little HA! woman	Dear Ha!Man, today my daughter had the privilege of participating in your show at Roseway Waldorf School. She has been looking forward to the show since last year when she heard that the older classes had seen you. She was so moved and inspired by the experience that this evening she re enacted the performance for her dad and brothers. She set up rows of chairs and created a stage space. She placed a guitar on stage and proceeded to entertain her audience with an improved set of percussion, song and strumming. In between musical moments she used gesture and short questions and anecdotes to draw the others in. I so wish I had filmed it so you could see for yourself how much you inspired her. The creativity, play filled learning and self expression she emulated is priceless. Thank you so much for the gift you gave her.

170506	workshop	by anonymous, Netherlands	Reactie voor HA!Man: Op 14 juni heb ik de workshop Van HA!Man beleefd. En inderdaad het was een belevenis. Ik ben geen muzikant of zanger ik hou van dansen ja ik dans. Maar in dit kader mocht ik alles wat mijn hart wou. gewoon doen. durven ..ervaren ..zoeken.. liefde geven en krijgen. Ik zei "zoeken" maar snel genoeg het zoeken transformeerde naar vinden , een ruimte vinden waarin ik me uit- waarin ik me heel voel en - een deel van een groot geheel word- zonder afspraken- woorden- hints of "moeten". Maar vanuit het Zijn. Deze workshop- deze gebeurtenis mag van me de wereld helen- in ieder geval ik voelde me helend- geheel- open. en dan wist ik dit is een unieke ervaring wat ik mezelf elk jaar wil gunnen. Bedankt!

130214	HA!Man and Joke	from review by Rob Knowles (Talk of The Town, Port Alfred)	Le Roux redefines the modern South African musical genre, rocking the roots of traditional African rhythm and challenging any preconceived ideas about what one is allowed to do with two keyboards, a speaker system, a descant recorder, a live cello and voice. Together with Debaere the performance was exceptional in terms of quality and originality. It is seldom that artists give so much of themselves in a performance as this pair did. The HA!Man is a musical revolution and le Roux and Debaere's performances are as memorable as they are emotive.

Unlike the famous cellist Pablo Casals who grunted in his advanced years, Francois deploys the most telling vocalization from lips, tongue and glottis, as well as his lips to whistle to delineate rhythms and give peculiar colour. At other moments he sings in a perfectly pitched baritone. As to the music itself, it would be fair, if inadequate, to state that he brings a most imaginative fusion of classical and contemporary melody and harmony to his highly varied conceptions, which is not at all derivative. His performance on piano, keyboard and cello is truly a fresh experience and one can only observe in amazement his countless improvisations and finely attuned interpretations - as with his rendition of Brahms' Lullaby, where he used flute, cello and piano to captivate his audience into a near trance.
